The National Health Institutes Complex – Complexo dos Institutos Nacionais (CIN) combines two main institutes of FIOCRUZ: the Evandro Chagas Research Institute – Instituto de Pesquisa Evandro Chagas (IPEC) that researches infectious diseases and the Fernandes Filgueiras Institute – Instituto Fernandes Filgueiras (IFF) that researches women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health. Being a major health care facility, the complex will provide a total of 247 rooms and 380 beds and it will be composed by three main buildings:

The Assistance building houses specific areas that belong to each institute and areas that function as platforms for both institutes, thus reducing the space required, the amount of health equipment, optimizing medical teams and reducing construction and maintenance costs.
This building contains various clinics, laboratories – including enclosed laboratory facilities with high Biosafety Level (BSL 3 +) – a human reproduction center, blood collection, day hospital, rehabilitation, imaging center, surgery center, childbirth center, adult and pediatric hospitalization, ICU’s (Adult and pediatric), as well as teaching areas and auditorium.
The Management building has a day care center, accommodations for resident physicians and support areas for patients’ companions. The Infrastructure building includes support areas for storage and maintenance activities.
